The Agua Fria Chapter NSDAR participates in community events and activities throughout the year. Special events Including the Military Order of World Wars Massing of the Colors and Service of Remembrance, Constitution Day, JROTC awards ceremonies, and Sun City Library workshops.

2022 EVENTS and ACTIVITIES

On September 17th the Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Agua Fria Chapter along with several other Arizona NSDAR and NSSAR chapters attended the U.S. Constitution luncheon at the Sun City Palmbrook Country Club which was hosted by the National Society Sons of the American Revolution Saguaro Chapter President Mike Fisch.

The Surprise Canyon Ridge School partnered with the Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Agua Fria Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution Saguaro Chapter, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2135, Liberty Ladies of Sun City West and Sun City Grand, and the American Association of University Women to present their twelfth annual United States Constitution Day program on September 16, 2022, to the student body from kindergarten through eighth grade.
A national traveling exhibit, Alexander Hamilton - Immigrant, Patriot, Visionary was the centerpiece of the campus Constitution celebration which offered a deeper understanding of the contributions of this talented Founder. The six-panel exhibit was produced by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History to depict Alexander Hamilton’s life from childhood through his death caused by wounds inflicted from a duel with Aaron Burr. This multi-panel exhibit was funded by the community partners and presented by the patriotic volunteers from the various organizations.

Agua Fria Chapter donated History Books to the Canyon Ridge School, and Chapter Regent, Twila Lobitz, and Registrar, Leslie Eaton presented a NSDAR Certificate of Excellence Award to Christopher J. Raso, M.Ed., who is a 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher for Canyon Ridge

Sun City Sunland Memorial Park is currently providing coffee and donuts at 9am on the 2nd Tuesday of each month to any Veteran who wishes to attend. Terri Flowers, Veteran Relations representative from Dignity Memorial Funeral Homes of Phoenix, provides this service to recognize, honor and thank Veterans for their service. On September 13th each Veteran attending was asked to introduce themselves, tell what branch or branches of military service they were in and something about their service.
Sun City National Society Daughters of the America Revolution Agua Fria Chapter Members Honorary Chapter Regent Shirley Staggs, member and Veteran Debbie Schneider and Chapter Registrar Leslie Eaton was present to recognize and honor five Vietnam War Era Veterans with a 50th anniversary commemorative lapel pin, a button, a magnet, a brochure which explains the meaning of the symbols on the pin and a “thank you for your service” letter from the chapter. Rick Kreiberg, Founder and Executive Director of Veterans Affinity and Retired Command Sergeant Major, US Army was also present to help with presenting each Veteran with the lapel pin. Rick and the Sun City NSDAR chapter have become a Commemorative Partner with the US Department of Defense. The DOD began a project called 50th Commemorative Vietnam Veteran Era to thank all US military veterans who served between November 1, 1955, thru May 15, 1975, regardless of location of service.

The annual donation of the POW-MIA flag was presented to RCSC General Manager Bill Cook and RCSC President Dale Lehrer at the Sun City Bell Center next to the Liberty Bell by the Sun City’s National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Agua Fria Chapter. The flag flies below the United States of America flag as a constant reminder of America’s unreturned Veterans, “Who We will Never Forget.” September 16, 2022 is National POW/ MIA Recognition Day, which was established in 1979 by the 39th US President James “Jimmy” Carter via presidential proclamation establishing the third Friday of every September to be set aside to remember and honor all missing US Veterans from the various wars. Flying the US Flag is one way to honor the missing Veterans. 1,556 Vietnam War service members are still missing.

On Tuesday, July 12th at 9am the Sun City Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary and Cremation Center, 15826 N Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351 honored and recognized the largest number of Veterans with free coffee and donuts. The second Tuesday of every month any US Veteran is invited to attend. A couple of guest speakers were also in attendance.

The Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Agua Fria Chapter members presented over 20 Vietnam War Era Veterans with 50th Commemorative Anniversary lapel pin packets at the Sun City Bell Center the 4th of July celebration. One Surviving Spouse lapel pin packet was also presented. About 200 US Flag pins were given to celebration attendees. Since the beginning of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution organization on October 11, 1890, chapter members have been honoring Veterans and America’s Founding Fathers who wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence for their service and sacrifices. The United States First Veterans were the Revolutionary War Patriots. Three branches of the military were formed at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The United States Army was the first branch to be formed on June 14, 1775. The Continental Navy was founded October 13, 1775, and the Continental Marines was founded November 10, 1775.

JROTC Awards Ceremony to Cadet Kaylen Martinez, Unit AZ-791, Air Force Junior ROTC
The Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughter of the American Revolution Chapter Parliamentarian Kathie Mittelsteadt presented the NSDAR JROTC certificate and bronze medal at the Cactus High School JROTC Awards Ceremony to Cadet Kaylen Martinez, Unit AZ-791, Air Force Junior ROTC. Lt Col Roel Zamora is the commanding officer in charge of the Cactus High School JROTC program. This award can be presented to any High School or Junior College junior or senior who is enrolled in JROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. To receive the bronze medal, Cadet Martinez displayed outstanding ability and achievement by demonstrating loyalty and patriotism and earning a record of military and scholastic achievement during her participation in the JROTC program. She was in the upper 25% of her ROTC and academic classes. She had shown qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability, and fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training.

US Flag Certificate Presentation
Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Honorary Chapter Regent Shirley Staggs presented a NSDAR Flag Certificate to John Rumary for flying a US American Flag at his Crown Trophy business in Surprise, Arizona. To fulfill one of the National Society’s missions to promote Patriotism, the NSDAR designed the certificate to be given to businesses, organizations and individuals who fly the US Flag.

Every year Agua Fria Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is honored to present the Sun City Recreation Center with a POW/MIA Flag to be flown at the Bell Rec Center, 16820 N. 99th Ave., in Sun City, to fly below the United States of America flag as a constant reminder of the plight of America’s Unreturned Veterans, Who We will Never Forget. National POW/ MIA Recognition Day is Sept. 17, 2021, and according to the Defense Personnel Accounting Agency, “at present, more than 81,600 Americans remain missing from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf Wars/other conflicts. Out of the more than 81,600 missing, 75% of the losses are located in the Indo-Pacific, and over 41,000 of the missing are presumed lost at sea (i.e. ship losses, known aircraft water losses, etc.),” last updated September 10, 2021.
